I still think that Mercedes has the upper hand here. I still believe that Renault is simply not going to sink all kinds of cash into R&D for a customer supply only. I think they'll do what they did with the old Supertech's: Make them just good enough to make a few bucks on and that's it.

More indications that RBR is a bit anxious:

Fact is when you make everybody build the same car, use the same tire, and carry the same fuel load, strategy is immediately eliminated from the sport.

The biggest problem F1 has (other than selling out to oil sheiks and communist who are trying very hard to NOT look like slave driving, human rights violating dictators) is that they actually think that by making everybody do the same exact thing that it will make for a better show.

WRONG.

Let me give you a for instance. Let's dumb this thing down a bit. Lets say that I start a guitar talent contest and we all are going to compete in it. Then, I tell you that the competition will be regulated by me. Here are the rules:

The guitar will be a classical acoustic Gibson C1. You are only allowed to play one song, "10 Years Gone" by Led Zeppelin.

Now what that does is put a lot of people behind the 8 ball. Many have never even held a classical neck guitar, let alone every played one. There's also the general rule that the younger guys don't even know what song I'm talking about, let alone how to play it.

So what you wind up with is a contest in which one guy (me) knows absolutely everything and then you have a few guys that know a bit and then you have several that have no clue at all.

Sound familiar?

In the old days there was an engine size limit. That was it. 3 liters naturally aspirated or 1.5 liters turbocharged, bring whatever you want.

So if you can build a V12 better than you can a V10, do it. If you already have a really good V8, then you can stick with that and improve it.

THAT is what built innovation: EVERYBODY DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY.

Now that everybody is doing the same thing, it plays to usually only one persons strengths and everybody else is just screwed.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I could go on about tires for a year.

Until the FIA wakes up and smells the coffee and realizes that they have:

1. Screwed the fan base by moving races to places nobody gives a damn about.

2. Screwed the sponsors/advitisers by moving races to areas that make it nigh on impossible to stay up late enough or wake up early enough to tune in thereby completely screwing them on their investment.

3. Made the track runoffs and forgiveness for leaving the track surface so lax that any idiot with a decent check book can now be an F1 driver.

4. Made a cookie cutter rule book that eliminates innovation.

The list goes on and on and on...but I'm getting so mad now thinking about it that I'm going to stop here.
