News has emerged today that Red Bull driver Christian Klien has been released from his contract for the remainder of the season. Almost immediately Spyker MF1 have broken cover and indicated that they are interested in securing his services.

"Christian Klien is definitely an option for next season," team boss Colin Kolles has reportedly told the popular F1 news site F1Racing.net. The site pushed Colin on whether Klien stands a chance of replacing one of the current drivers in the Spyker MF1 team. "We will finish the season with our current race driver that is one thing that is for sure," Kolles answered. "As a Friday driver we have various options and he is indeed an option."

F1Racing.net also revealed that Klien, in an interview to the site, had not denied that driving for the then Midland F1 team was a possibility. In the interview he stated that "the only seats available for next year are at Midland and Super Aguri". With the new Spyker MF1 team signing high profile staff like Mike Gascoyne and the promise of lucratice sponsorship from strong business links, F1Racing.net beleives that the ex-Midland F1 Racing team is now looking more attractive to potential drivers.

This news, of course, raises futher questions over the future of current race driver Tiago Monteiro. It is widely expected that Christijan Albers will be at Spyker MF1 for the 2007 season, although this has not been confirmed by his management yet. Reading through our forum here on this site, I do pick up the feeling that Portuguese fans are bracing themselves for Tiago being dropped from the team at the end of the season.
