In 2006, Adrian Sutil was presented to the worlds media as a test
driver for the fledgling Midland F1 Racing team.
In 2007, Adrian is presented as a
race driver, partnering Christijan Albers at Spyker F1.
Spyker's Managing Director Colin Kolles commented in 2006, "Adrian drove
for my F3 team in his rookie Euroseries season. When he earned pole
position in just his third race, I was more than just impressed - I
was convinced that he was a talent for the future. As MF1's Junior
Driver in 2006, he will have the opportunity to mature
professionally in a Formula 1 environment and prepare himself
thoroughly for what I believe will be a great F1 career."
In 2007, Colin built on his comments.
"This is a great signing for team but also a proud one for me
personally. Adrian made his F3 debut with Team Kolles in 2004 and
quite obviously had huge potential when he scored his first pole
position in his third race. He has driven for two great teams since
then and matured very quickly. Everyone at Spyker was hugely
impressed when he drove for us in 2006 which is why we have worked
long and hard to get him in the race team."
Sutil drove three Grand Prix Friday`s
for Spyker in 2006 while concentrating on winning the tough and
prestigious Japanese F3 Championship for the Tom`s Toyota team. In
2005 Adrian was runner-up to Champion and ASM team-mate Lewis
Hamilton in the European F3 series.
Sutil will share testing duties for the team and will also
participate in some of the Friday Grand Prix practice days.
A gifted pianist, Sutil was expected to follow his violinist father,
Jorge, into a musical career but at the age of 14, he discovered
karting.
"From that moment on the sound of racing engines was the only music
I wanted to hear. I really enjoyed being in the F1 Paddock last
year, and to be honest I thought I would be a test driver in 2007.
Colin Kolles and Michiel Mol have been fantastically patient and
supportive while this package became reality. I look forward to
repaying their faith in me but right now I`m just going to enjoy the
best Christmas present ever."
