In the second free practice session of the Belgian GP weekend, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers, Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld, continued their preparations for the remainder of the weekend rather than trying to set fast lap times. Consequently, they settled for finishing ninth and eleventh. In session two, once again held in brilliant sunshine and temperatures reaching 20° C, the BMW Sauber F1 Team aces opted for a different strategy to that of drivers with the other top teams. While the McLarens and Ferraris went out in the closing stages of the session on a relatively light load of fuel, in order to set fast lap times, Nick and Robert continued lapping the "Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps" on a heavier fuel loads in order to keep working on the perfect race setup, while also executing further tyre evaluations.

Over the course of the team's extensive preparation programme, Robert was the slightly busier and faster of the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers. The Pole completed a total of five stints comprising 37 laps, with his final two stints being long-runs, one over twelve, the other over seven laps. He set his best time of 1:48.279 minutes on the first flying lap of his final stint, finishing ninth on the time sheets.

Nick was on a similar programme. The German also completed five stints - totalling 36 laps - and just like Robert, his final two stints were also long-runs, both of ten laps. Nick set his personal fastest lap time of 1:48.606 minutes slightly earlier than his team-mate, on the first flying lap of his fourth stint. In the end he proved to be the eleventh-fastest driver of the session.

With his 1:46.654-minute lap, McLaren's Fernando Alonso once again proved to be the quickest of the session.

In the third free practice session, held on Saturday morning from 11.00 to 12.00hrs CEST (10.00 to 11.00hrs BST), the BMW Sauber F1 Team will complete its preparations for the remainder of the weekend.
