In the third free practice session for the Belgian GP, it was left to Nick Heidfeld to complete the BMW Sauber F1 Team's preparations for the remainder of the weekend. Robert Kubica had to abort his efforts early in the session due to technical problems.

For Robert, the third free practice session of the Belgian Grand prix weekend turned out to be his shortest of the season to date. The Pole had just gone out for his first run but stopped on his out-lap. "I heard a strange noise and opted for switching the engine off right away," he said.

Consequently, it was Nick who had to complete the BMW Sauber F1 Team's preparations for the remainder of the weekend. On the way to finalising the setup work and tyre evaluations, the German completed four stints totalling 16 laps. In two of his stints, he had to abort a fast lap due to yellow flags but in his final stint he had the chance of completing a flying lap and crossed the line in 1:47.359 minutes to finish eighth on the time sheets.

The fastest time of the session was set by Kimi Räikkönen. The Ferrari driver lapped the "Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps" in 1:46.137 minutes.

In the qualifying session, starting today at 14.00hrs CEST (13.00hrs BST), the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers will give its very best to secure another two top-ten grid positions.
