In the second practice session for the 2009 Australian Grand Prix, the BMW Sauber F1 Team continued its preparation programme for the first race of the new Formula One season. Nick Heidfeld finished 14th, while Robert Kubica ended the session in 15th. Nick and Robert both completed an extensive preparation programme in session two, with Nick being the slightly faster, and Robert the slightly busier, driver of the BMW Sauber F1 Team pairing.

During his two short stints and three long-runs, Nick completed a total of 34 laps. On his 20th lap, the German, again running with KERS, clocked his personal best time of 1:27.317 minutes to finish 14th on the time sheets.

On his way to finding the perfect set-up for the race, Robert completed one stint and two laps more than his team-mate. The Pole set his personal fastest lap of 1:27.398 minutes on lap 18 and finished 15th, right behind his team-mate.

Nico Rosberg (Williams) once again clocked the best time of the session with a 1:26.053 minute lap. Brawn GP's Rubens Barrichello finished second ahead of Jarno Trulli (Toyota).

Both BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers focussed on set-up work and completed tyre evaluations. Bridgestone brought is super-soft and medium compounds to Melbourne.

In the third free practice session, starting at 14:00hrs local time (03:00hrs GMT) the BMW Sauber F1 Team will complete its preparations for race and qualifying.
