The review of the debut season of the BMW Sauber F1 Team, part II: During the 2nd race of the 2006 season in Malaysia, the team started its next attempt to let both cars cross the finish line. While the team failed to achieve this goal, Jacques was able to collect the first world championship points
The BMW Sauber F1 Team had just completed its debut race in Bahrain when Jacques already managed to collect two points for the newly founded team in his second GP race. Having started from 10th place, he was able to show a good performance and crossed the finish line in seventh position in Sepang.

Nick Heidfeld, on the other hand, was forced to accept an early exit. Seven laps before the end of the race, the German retired in fifth place. Just like Jacques in Bahrain, an engine failure ended his hopes of recording a successful result.

Overall the engines had been under a lot of strain during this weekend, which led to seven unplanned engine replacements in the starting grid. Therefore, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers benefited from the penalties for the other drivers in the qualifying session. Nick entered the race from 11th position instead of 14th; Jacques moved forward from 15th to 10th place in the starting grid.
