The Monaco Grand Prix is notorious for following its own rules. This was certainly the case in this year's race. Again it was an exciting race, although there were not many overtaking manoeuvres or retirements. The decisive factor this time was the strategy. We had the choice between a one or two-stop strategy. Some drivers had a clear line for most of the race, the others were stuck in the traffic losing time. We had opted for a one-stop strategy for both our drivers.

It was satisfying that we managed to bring both our cars to the finish line without any reliability problems, thus scoring seven important points. To date, we have collected points in all five races and further consolidated third place in the Constructors' Championship. We are full of confidence for the back-to-back races in North America, though theses tracks have completely different requirements.

Compared to last year's Monaco Grand Prix, we have been able to score a significantly better result. We had one of our most difficult races here in 2006. Therefore we concentrated on setting up the car more precisely for this unique track, especially with regards aerodynamics and chassis. We introduced a new front wing and added further aerodynamic changes. We also fitted new power steering and made changes to the steering geometry.

There was also quite a lot going on behind the scenes of the Monaco Grand Prix. Discussions about the future Formula One regulations continued. The dialogue started two weeks ago at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. As a basis for discussion the FIA had introduced a consultation paper. On that basis, the manufacturers are invited to bring in their opinions and propositions. This will happen in the coming weeks.

From a technological point of view the topics discussed are very interesting. We are talking about a completely new concept, which will also be relevant for series production. That's why BMW basically supports this approach. What we have to avoid though is sky rocketing of costs. It is important that we commit ourselves early, in order to stretch the development work over several years.
