From scaffolder to Formula One driver

BMW Sauber F1 Team test driver Timo Glock knows from his own experience that very different professions, such as scaffolder and Formula One driver, do have some things in common. Timo explains here which ones... . "Only a few Formula One fans know that I completed an apprenticeship as a scaffolder before committing myself 100% to racing," Timo told the members' journal of the BMW Sauber F1 Team Race Club, "essence". "The job of a scaffolder is pretty special. In my parents' company we build scaffolds for churches and large industrial plants. You're often dealing with complicated buildings."

However, Timo has also detected parallels between the two different jobs and comments: "The person who builds the scaffold has to be very focused in his work. After all, that person is responsible for the safety of his colleagues who will be working on the scaffolding later on. You can compare the risk of the job with Formula One. Though I'd actually say that Formula One is safer than scaffolding."
