The third free practice session for the US Grand Prix brought another proof of the BMW Sauber F1.07's competitiveness. Sebastian Vettel finished second, with Nick Heidfeld securing fifth position. Qualifying will start at 1300 Local Time (or 1700 GMT).

In the third free practice session for the US Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel and Nick Heidfeld successfully completed the preparations for qualifying and race. In brilliant sunshine, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers completed four stints each, with Sebastian being the slightly busier by lapping the "Indianapolis Motor Speedway" 27 times. At the same time, Nick contented himself with completing 24 laps.

Following his installation lap, Sebastian started the session with a nine-lap long-run to add two six-lap stints and a final five-lap stint, afterwards. The young German clocked his personal fastest lap time of 1:12.321 on the first flying lap of his third stint - on the soft compound. With this lap, he temporarily took the lead and in the end he surprisingly finished runner-up behind McLaren's Fernando Alonso who proved to be the quickest, with his 1:12.150-minute lap.

Nick Heidfeld began the session with a seven-lap stint, followed by one six-lap stints and two five-lap outings. With his personal fastest lap time of 1:12.646 minutes, set on the first timed lap of his final five-lap stint, the experienced German secured fifth position on the time sheets.

Both Sebastian and Nick experienced a problem-free session and avoided making any mistakes. Therefore, they had the chance of completing their preparations for the remainder of the weekend.

In the qualifying session, starting at 13.00hrs local time (18.00hrs BST), Sebastian and Nick will give their very best to confirm the competitive performances delivered by the BMW Sauber F1 Team in the previous races.
