In the first free practice session for the British GP, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers, Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld, successfully commenced their preparation programme for the remainder of the weekend. Robert finished sixth on the time sheets while Nick secured seventh position. The first free practice session of the British GP weekend was held under overcast skies, and unseasonably low temperatures of just 18° C. Neither Robert nor Nick experienced any technical problems whatsoever, therefore they were able to complete the set-up work and tyre evaluations scheduled for the session.

Robert was clearly the busier of the pairing. The Pole completed a total of four stints totalling 23 laps and set a personal fastest lap time of 1:22.1907 minutes to secure sixth place. Nick, however, made do with just three stints totalling 13 laps. The German clocked his personal fastest lap of 1:22.176 minutes time as early as in his second stint. He finished seventh.

The fastest time of the session was set by McLaren's local hero Lewis Hamilton who lapped the 5.141-kilometre circuit in 1:21.100 minutes.

In the second free practice session, held from 14:00 to 15:30hrs BST, the BMW Sauber F1 Team will continue its preparations for the remainder of the weekend.
