In the second free practice session for the Hungarian GP, Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica successfully continued the BMW Sauber F1 Team's extensive preparation programme for the remainder of the weekend. Nick finished 5th and Robert came 10th. .

In session two of the Hungarian GP weekend, Nick and Robert completed a massive 37 laps each. Nick did so over the course six stints while Robert needed only five stints to cover this distance.

While continuing the setup work and the tyre evaluations, Nick completed three short stints and three long-runs and set his personal fastest lap time of 1:21.517 minutes on the first flying lap of his fourth stint, a 12-lap long-run. In the end, he finished fifth on the time sheets.

Robert, who drove only two short stints and three long-runs, set his personal fastest lap even earlier than his team-mate. On the first flying lap of his third stint, an 11-lap long-run, the Pole lapped the Hungaroring in 1:21.906 minutes to secure tenth position.

During the course of the session, a new trend became obvious: the top teams, such as the BMW Sauber F1 Team, McLaren or Ferrari, are no longer ready to put their cards on the table, in the Friday sessions. Nick, for instance, set the clearly fastest first split time of the session but reduced his speed right afterwards to not reveal the BMW Sauber F1.07's true competitiveness. And a short time later, McLaren's Fernando also decelerated massively after having been the quickest with two stints completed. In the third free practice session, held on Saturday morning from 11.00 to 12.00hrs CEST (10.00 to 11.00hrs BST) Nick and Robert will complete their preparations for the remainder of the weekend.
