In the qualifying session for the Turkish GP, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers extended their streak of top-ten grid positions to 13 consecutive races. Robert Kubica qualified fifth and Nick Heidfeld secured sixth grid position. In leg two, the pairing caused a stir by clocking identical lap times. Again, advancing to the second knockout phase of qualifying proved to be an easy task for the BMW Sauber F1 Team pairing. Both completed just one stint with one timed lap and had no problems whatsoever to finish fifth (Robert) and sixth respectively. Robert did so by setting a personal fastest lap time of 1:27.997 minutes and Nick lapped the "Istanbul Speed Park" in 1:28.099 minutes. Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen secured provisional pole by clocking a lap time of 1:27.294 minutes.

Eliminated: Vitantonio Liuzzi, Ralf Schumacher, Takuma Sato, Sebastian Vettel, Adrian Sutil, Sakon Yamamoto.

In the second knockout phase of qualifying, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers delivered an amazing feat: again both needed just one timed lap to secure fifth and sixth position on the time sheets but this time, they did so by setting absolutely identical lap times. Both Robert and Nick crossed the finish line in 1:27.253 minutes. Robert did so some 30 seconds earlier than Nick, and the Pole was scored as fifth, with his German team-mate having to settle for sixth position. At the same time, they demonstrated that the BMW Sauber F1 Team keeps on closing in on Ferrari and McLaren. After all, Robert's and Nick's gap to the cars ahead was smaller than the one their rivals behind. The fastest lap time of the session, a 1:26.841-minute lap, was clocked by McLaren's Fernando Alonso.

Eliminated: Anthony Davidson, Mark Webber, David Coulthard, Rubens Barrichello, Jenson Button, Alexander Wurz.

In the top-ten shootout of the qualifying session, Robert and Nick finished fifth and sixth respectively. Both Robert and Nick set their personal minimum times in their second flying laps, with Robert setting a 1:27.722-minute lap and Nick crossing the line in 1:28.037 minutes. Pole position was secured by Ferrari's Felipe Massa with a 1:27.039-minute lap.

Result: 1st Felipe Massa, 2nd Lewis Hamilton, 3rd Kimi Räikkönen, 4th Fernando Alonso, 5th Robert Kubica, 6th Nick Heidfeld, 7th Heikki Kovalainen, 8th Nico Rosberg, 9th Jarno Trulli, 10th Giancarlo Fisichella.
