Car by car, the season so far!

Cars nr 23-22 Team McLaren-Mercedes

The team got of to a flying start with Hamilton dominating the Autralian GP and took the flag in first position, It Could however been more if it Wasn´t for bad luck with the saftey car. Kovalainen were heading for a easy podium at the time. The Malaysian weekend got of to a nightmare start for the team as both drivers got demoted 5 places on the grid due to impending Heidfeld and Alonso during Qualifying. In the race Heikki took 3rd place but this only after Massa spun heading for a certain 2nd.Bahrain was to be even worst. Hamilton messed up at the start and was far down the order coming to the first corner, but even without that misstake the McLarens were clearly off the pace compared to Ferrari and BMW-Sauber. Even though the form for the team at the moment is going down I´m sure they will get it together for the rest of the season.

Cars nr 21-20 Team Force India-Ferrari

Finally it seems that this team is getting back to beeing competitive. The Former Jordan, Midland, Spyker team has so far been able to Cause problems for the bigger teams. No points have been score so far but Fisichella has been very impressive. It seems he has been “born again” after a few struggling seasons at Renault. Adrian Sutil however has been somewhat of a dissapointment, after cleary Dominating his teammates duning 2007 he has been regulary outpaced by Fisichella. If he wants his career in f1 to continue after this season he has to up his game.I Think by the end of this season Force india has scored some points fore sure.

Cars nr 19-18 Team Super Aguri-Honda

It´s kind of heartbreaking to watch this teams struggle. No testing during the winter due to Financial problems has left them dead last in the standings. Davidson and Sato has done their very best during the races, but when you have an uncompetitve car like this one theres not much you can do. Even worse is that the team has run out of money and at the time its not sure if they will make it to Barcelona or not. Sadly it looks like this team will not finish the season... I will be very surprised if they do.

Cars nr 17-16 Team Honda

It´s a mystery to me that this team has gone from a top team 2004 to a backmarker team 2007 and 2008. Last season was embarrasing from Honda and everybody thought that come 2008 all their problems would be solved.... The truth however is that the team is still a bortom 4 team. No points so far and Button and Barrichello must be extremely frustrated even if they try to put on a smile. The future though looks bright in my eyes as they now have Ross Brown onboard. I expect the team to get better and better and score a dussin points by the end of the year. Next season with all the new regulations the playfield will be leveled and Honda will be a force to look out for.

Cars nr 15-14 Team Toro Rosso-Ferrari

2 points scored so far by this Red Bull junior team. Points scored must be a delight for the team but they sure had hoped for more duning These 3 first races. The team chosed to start with last years car hoping reliability would help them early on. The fact is it´s been the opposite!! Vettel has not finished a race so far and the points scored by Bourdais he scored despite retiring 3 laps from the end at the Australian GP.I will however follow this team with great interrest for the remainder of the season. Their line-up with rising star Vettel and 4 time champ-car champion Bourdais is in my opinion a very strong line-up.

Cars nr 12-11 Team Toyota

The team has certainly been one of the positives so far! Jarno Trulli has already scored the same amount of points this three races as he did during the whole 2007 season. For The 2007 GP champion Timo Glock however it hasn´t gone as planned. No points so far but I´m sure he will get to grips with the car soon, and then he will be able to challenge Trulli. I wouldn´t be surprised if hte team finished 4th in the standings after the big 3.

Cars nr 10-9 Team Red Bull-Renault

The team has performed they way I had expected them to do. They have a great driver in Webber, and his ability to get out that perfect qualifying lap is a great asset! Two 7th places maybe don´t seems so much but the competition is fierce. I´m confident that they team would have performed better if they didn´t have Toro rosso to concern about. The rest of the season will be the same for Red Bull. I find it hard to Believe they can challenge the top 3 teams, But Webber will be there to pick up the points behind them. Coulthard has seen the best of his days and I would be surprised to see him continue after 2008.

Cars nr 8-7 Team Williams-Toyota

They were the highest scoring constructor after McLaren in Australia with the team scoring 9 points. Rosberg got his fully deserved podium finish and Nakajima scoring a lucky 3 points despite running in to the back of Kubica. The problem for Williams though is that they only have got one driver at the moment that can score points.. Sure if there is another lucky race like Australia then maybe Nakajima will score again. As with Webber for Red Bull, Rosberg will be there to take the points behind the 3 top teams.Hopefully Williams will improve during the remainder of the season. This classic team deserves to get back to the top.

Cars nr 6-5 Team Renault

After a dreadful 2007 season that saw the 2006 champions fall to a midfield team many had hoped Alonsos return would make the differnce. The fact is that nowdays if a driver don´t have the car no miracles can be expected. Alonso has done a brilliant job with a car not worthy of his standards. 6 points score is a job well done by Fernando. Rookie Nelson Piquet jr has been a dissapointment so far. In Australia he was painful to watch. He has been better in Malaysia and Bahrain but nowhere near Alonso.Alonso will keep scoring during the season but we will rarely see Piquet in the points.. Thats my guess!

Cars nr 4-3 Team BMW-Sauber

What a start it has been!! 3 podium finishes in 3 races! And it doesn´t stop there: Fastest lap in Malaysia, Pole Position in Bahrain and leading the contructor Championship!Nick, Robert and the team has outdone themselfs so far. It could infact have been even a little better hadn´t Nakajima runned into Kubica in Australia and if Trulli hadn´t pushed Nick of the line in the first corner at Malaysia.Important to remember though is that we have been a little bit lucky with Ferrarí having problems in Australia and McLaren messing it up in Malaysia and Bahrain. The team is set to score its first win this season. My bet is that it will be Kubica that takes it much because he seems to get the most out of the car in qualifying. In the races our drivers is often evenly matched.. But starting position is crusual for a good race.

Cars nr 2-1 Team Ferrari

The reigning champions got of to a terrible start with both drivers failing to get to the finish. Since then Räikkönen has got his act together with one victory and one 2nd place. He is heading for his 2nd title and I would be surprised if there is anyone that can stop him. Sure Massa can be extremely fast at times, but he also makes far to many misstakes When he is under pressure.MY bet is that Car nr 1 will once again be champion and the team will also take the constructors title.

Just my thoughts from the opening 3 races.....

Good recap. I think we'll see some surprises as the season evolves. A win or two by BMW isn't at all out of the question.
I think Lewis will continue to encounter ups ands downs, which could allow Heikki to come out on top of him in the final tally for McLaren.
Massa's chances of continuing his emotional errors are good.
Kimi will be the guy to beat, no doubt.
As for the others we must keep in mind the massive rule changes coming in 09, will most likely cause the 08 development to peak rather soon, so by mid-season, "what you see is what you will get." Whom ever has the edge at that point in time, will pretty much finish accordingly.
Team changes to the car during the next 4 or 5 races will be critical to this years finishing pecking order.

I wouldnt count Massa out just yet. Kimi is not as fast without traction.

You may be right, but IMO as much as I got to like him in his Sauber days, he lacks consistency. He's fast, has a fast car, but emotion out weights judgement way too often. If the season winds down, and the pressure builds, Kimi will deliver where as Massa may fold.

Massa is always a "?" mark. But I give him that in his career, he improved. In early days he couldnt take the same line twice, but he got better with time. Will he continue to improve ? From time to time tho I still have thoughts if he should be in a ferrari. Without Todt connection and Shumacher wanting a worse driver than him as teammate, prolly he wouldnt.
