Adrian and Rubens clashed

Adrian Sutil finished two places behind where he started. However, he did provide one of the few exciting moments of the race after his careful defence against Rubens Barrichello resulted in the latter losing patience and crashing into him. Giancarlo Fisichella, having had a good clean start, became the first retirement on lap 4 due to a very long brake pedal.

Adrian's start was reasonable though not spectacular, but the rest of his first stint was very consistent. As a result, he was 11th come the first pit stop. He stuck behind Heikki Kovalainen after that because the driver between them (Rubens Barrichello) had lost places due to striking Heikki's car.

Rubens, equipped with a very fast Brawn, soon hovered into view. For several laps, Adrian kept Rubens behind him using a combination of clean but decisive defensive moves and consistent pace. Rubens initially dropped back a bit, then attempted an impossible overtaking move. The resulting collision gave Rubens a broken front wing and Adrian some clear space behind him.

After that, Adrian's race was uneventful. He started immediately behind Heikki and finished immediately behind him in 17th, the Force India not having the pace to do anything about the McLaren ahead. 

Giancarlo's race was slightly longer than last year's, which isn't saying much. After keeping out of the path of other cars on the first corner, the brake pedal gradually became less and less effective. The car was retired on safety grounds on lap 4 and although Giancarlo waited in the car for a few laps thereafter, the problem proved impossible to fix in the timescale of a race.

Force India will want to move on from this race as soon as possible. Silverstone should offer a good opportunity to do so, not only because it is the team's home race but because there will be upgrades available to the VJM02s.
