The Renault F1 team has announced Giancarlo Fisichella as official driver for the 2005 season along Spaniard Fernando Alonso.
The Italian, 31 years old at the present time, last drove for the team on the 2001 season when it was still the Benetton team.
Since then he spent two years on the struggling Jordan team and this 2004 season on the improving Sauber team.
"We are delighted to welcome Giancarlo to the Renault team," commented Managing Director Flavio Briatore. "Since we last worked with him in 2001, every aspect of his approach to the sport has matured. I am confident that Fernando and Giancarlo are the drivers we need to achieve our goal of winning the world championship in the coming seasons." Said Renault F1 Managing Director Flavio Briatore in Renault's public announcement.
Jarno Trulli will therefore leave the team at the end of the season and is speculated that he will join Ralf Schumacher on the Toyota team.
"Jarno's dedication and enthusiasm have been great assets and he has made an important contribution to the development of the team, and the image of the Renault Group" concluded Briatore. "He is assured a successful future in Formula 1, and I wish him all the best for the future on behalf of the entire team." Added Briatore.
