Alonso scored his second podium in 3 races for Renault, and in only 20 races in Formula 1, when his Renault crashed against the tire of Jaguar’s Mark Webber setting the track with even more debris and obliging the race marshals to red flag the race. On declarations to Europa Press Alonso was asked about his favorite to win the Championship and he was clear in signaling defending champion Michael Schumacher of Ferrari:

“What is happening to him is just bad luck. It is not going to make a big difference. He has had a bit of bad luck in these last races, but for me he is still candidate number one for the title at the end of the year”.

“The Championship is a bit messed up” He added. “But now, with the races in Europe I guess things will get back to normal and the big teams will be back on top”.

Alonso is confident for the next race ahead: “Imola is a technical circuit that I know quite well and I think we can do good things”.

The Spanish driver said that the Brazilian race was quite some fun despite the crash: “I remember everything, the crash, the tire in the tarmac and spinning out of control. It was quite a crash. You do not have time to feel scared.

Alonso is a true believer of the HNAS now: “It is clear that without the HANS I could have had a huge problem”.
