BMW Williams dominated the first free practice of early Friday ahead of Webber's Jaguar. Alonso was the first Renault and finished 5th, closely followed by his teammate on 8th.
Ralf Schumacher set the best time earlier this morning with a 1.21.335 to lead the sheet and his teammate by a very reduced margin.
Mark Webber's continued to show the strong pace of Jaguar by setting the 3rd best time. More than a second faster than his teammate who could only achieve 12th. Pizzonia's pace has been quite slow so far in the season and it's prompting speculations that he could be replaced on the British team.
Coulthard was 4th just ahead of Renault's Alonso who set a best time of 1.22.561, half a second faster than his teammate Trulli who finished 8th.
Just behind Trulli were the two Ferraris of Barrichello and Michael Schumacher who set exactly the same time of 1.23.057.
Friday's qualifying will be later today and there is lots expectationn to see if Williams, Jaguar and Renault can keep the form showed in practice.
