Fernando Alonso set the fastest time at today's free practice.
After running 15 laps on the second session of free practice with a time of 1.17.670, more than half a second faster than 2nd placed Rubens Barrichello.
Jarno Trulli, Alonso's teammate, finished 3rd in the same session, showing clearly the strong pace of Renault at the Spanish track.
Fans went wild in anticipation of today's qualifying when Alonso set the fastest time. A time that was not able to be matched by no other competitor. Thousands of fans have come from the home region of Asturias to see Alonso race at Barcelona.
Michael Schumacher achieved the 4th best time almost one second behind Alonso. This shows the strong pace of the new Ferrari that is makiung it's GP debut at Barcelona.
Quite surprisingly neither of the Williams are showing great pace at this track as they both finished on the back of the grid.
