Engine failures!

Renault F1 is hard at work trying to find out the problems on the engine in order to prevent them from happening again. At the French GP, the home race, both drivers saw their engine blow on the same lap while they were driving 6th and 7th. Head on Engine Operations, Dennis Chevrier, is hard at work trying to find the reasons of the failures:

"The source of the problem (for Jarno) was a fuel leak in the airbox," explained Chevrier. "However, owing to the subsequent small fire which damaged some parts in the engine, we are unable to say exactly what caused this initial fault." He said.

"Fernando's problem occurred very suddenly on lap 44, and we discovered it in the garage at the same time as those who were watching on television: we had no warning at all on the telemetry. What we can confirm is that the origin of the failure is in the lower part of the engine." He concluded.

The team is now hard at work with the units to be used at the British GP that will take place in 12 days.

"We will be pursuing our normal race preparation work here at Viry," concludes Denis, "while part of the team is travelling to Barcelona for three days of testing, beginning on Wednesday."
