Flavio says no to World Champion

Renault F1 Managing Director, Flavio Briatore, has declined to accept the offer to take Jacques Villeneuve as a driver for the 2004 season. The Canadian, that has been racing for 5 years for BAR, was interested in moving to a top 4 team. However, Villeneuve has failled to impress this year when confronted with Jenson Button. The British driver has out-qualyfied and out-raced several times this season the most experienced Canadian.

Since Jenson was rejected from Renault at the end of last season to make place for young Alonso Briatore sees no reasons to employ Jacques Villeneuve:

"I don't want Villeneuve even if he offers to drive for Renault for free." He told Blick. "I've got good drivers, who work hard and show respect. I don't want a star driver who doesn't show respect to people. And besides, he's not that fast.

"We prepare for the future with stars of the future." He added.

Villeneuve is set to continue at BAR for a much reduced salary as the top teams have their seats already set for the future.
