The Renault F1 team had a difficult first day at the track of Bahrain.
Both drivers struggled to find the ultimate grip to be able to post competitive times.
Fernando Alonso finished 9th best in the second session after completing 21 laps to the track. His teammate, Jarno Trulli, had a spin after what seems like an engine failure that could deminish Trulli's chances this weekend. He could not continue the session and finished 18th after only 12 laps.
Alonso also encountered trouble when one of his tyre disintegrated after going off track. David Coulthard also had something similar happening to one of his Michelin tyres.
The session was dominated once again by a Ferrari. This tiem Rubesn barrichello was able to edge his teammate and top the times just 0.001 seconds in front of Juan Pablo Montoya.
BAR-Honda continued to show their impressive pace and test driver Anthony Davidson was able to finish 3rd just 0.038 seconds behind the Brazilian. Michael Schumacher finished 4th ahead of the Jaguar of Christian Klien.
Alonso's time was 0.784 shy of the time set by Rubens Barrichello.
Another possible engine problem happened to Kimi raikkonen after his McLaren Mercedes came to a halt on the outlap of the second session. The Finn had only completed 10 laps on the first session.
