Ferrari dominates at Imola

The first practice session of the San Marino Grand Prix has set the tone of what could be another red wash this Sunday. Michael Schumacher set a best time of 1.20.084 after only 11 laps, more than one second faster than his teammate Rubens Barrichello. Michael's time was set at the middle of the hour long session and later on the driver continued to lap the track at a lower pace.

Most of the rest of the drivers set the best time on the last minutes of the session when the track had gained some grip.

Renault finished 7th and 9th with Trulli leading the way with a best time of 1.22.927 after 11 laps while his teammate, Fernando Alonso, set a best time of 1.23.083 after 13 laps.

There is reason for hope as both times were set on the first half of the session and the pace afterwards makes us believe that the team was going through the tyre program without worrying for the time clock.

Kimi Raikkonen was able to split the two Renaults after setting a best time of 1.23.054 after only 4 laps.

BAR Honda continues to impress on the time sheets with Anthony Davidson finishing 4th and Jenson Button 5th after only 10 laps.

Practice 2 starts at 2 PM local time.
