Alonso 6th, Jacques 13th, Michael last!

The Renault F1 team saved the day by finishing 6th and 13th at today's qualifying session. It looked more grim earlier this morning as neither driver could make it to the top 9 in any of the sessions. However, the good race set up of the R24 has allowed Alonso to climb positions and end up 6th on the grid after posting a best time of 1.34.917.

His teammate Jacques Villeneuve did also a good lap though he finished 13th despite being only over 0.4 seconds slower than his teammate.

The pole was for Rubens Barrichello who set a best time of 1.34.012. he will share the front row with Kimi Raikkonen who did a great lap and set a best time of 1.34.178.

Third was the BAR Honda of Jenson Button with a best time of 1.34.295 followed by Felipe Massa and Ralf Schumacher.

World Champion Michael Schumacher was set for the pole when he made a mistake at turn 1 and will start tomorrow from the end of the grid.
