Faure: Trulli not competitive enough!

Renault Sport President, Patrick Faure has talked to Marca about the reasons behind the decision to drop Trulli and to hire Jacques Villeneuve for the three last races of the year. Trulli was dropped after the race at Monza and two days later signed a contract to drive for Toyota in 2005 and 2006. Jacques Villeneuve is racing for Renault in the last three races of the season but finished 11th on his race debut at China.

Faure was asked about the decision to drop Trulli with three races left and the chance that this has hurt the team more:

“We had to react after learning that Trulli was in negotiations with another team and we hired Fisichella for 2005. We saw that we were lacking sparkle between our drivers and we wanted to fight for the second place on the Championship. That’s why we decided to bring in Villeneuve. It was a shock for all to take this decision, but it was a positive schock because we saw that Trulli was not competitive enough."
