Stroud based Jentin Racing and rider James Ellison have won the British Superbike Cup championship with a round to spare, following another convincing double victory at Oulton Park.

Ellison qualified as the fastest of the British Superbike Cup competitors for the fourth time this season, with a time that put him in thirteenth overall position at the Cheshire circuit - setting up the Jentin Racing team’s eleventh and twelfth wins of the season, and the fifth double victory.

Needing just eight points from the remaining four races to wrap up the title for Jentin Racing, Ellison would settle for nothing less than a win in the first race. He did not disappoint; crossing the line more than two seconds ahead of nearest rival Jon Kirkham after a rain interrupted two-part race.

Breaking out specially made t-shirts celebrating the Jentin squad’s first championship title, team owner Jon Poole said that it was a fantastic day for all involved. “We were totally committed to giving James the best equipment and support from the outset, and he has repaid all the hard work and effort of those involved with the Jentin Racing team by winning the championship with a round to spare.

“My partner and team manager, Bernard Toleman, has done a fantastic job developing the new ’04 Yamaha YZF-R1 into a consistent race winner in such a short space of time, co-ordinating the efforts of the very best technical partners available - including race products manufactures Harris Performance, engine preparation specialists Race Techniques, GWR Motorsport and Pirelli tyres amongst many others.

“We are a small but very professional team, and it’s been hard work for everyone involved, but all the effort has been worthwhile and we have shown what can be achieved both in the British and World Superbike Championships when everyone is so focused.”

With the championship decided, celebrations were quickly put on ice to concentrate on preparations for race two. Ellison made his usual brilliant start and, after the first lap, was battling for fourth with Japanese factory rider Yukio Kagayama whilst keeping Sean Emmett behind him. Unfortunately, Ellison was adjudged to have moved before the lights and suffered a ‘ride through penalty’, pushing him back to sixteenth position behind Cup rival Kirkham. Again Ellison would take nothing less than a win and passed Kirkham on lap eleven to take the Jentin team’s second Superbike Cup win of the day and thirteenth place overall.

Ellison said coming back to the UK and winning the British Superbike Cup meant a lot, and that it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the team. “Winning the Cup is mega! It’s been a real team effort and I can’t thank them and our many supporters enough, particularly Harris Performance, Pirelli and Fraser’s of Gloucester.”
