A strong contingent of Vivaldi British Supermoto Championship riders performed well at the Supermoto World Championship round at Namur in Belgium yesterday with several top ten finishes. The atrocious weather throughout the weekend didn’t faze the British riders as they mixed it with the best at a track which was a 50% split of tarmac and off-road.

In S1, Husaberg riders Christian Iddon and Naturally Best Rider of the Day award winner Sam Warren both finished in the top 15 in Race 1. Iddon finished fourth in Race 2 after holding second place for most of the race and Warren fought back from 12th after the first lap to take seventh place.

Warren said that the weekend had gone better than he could have possibly hoped for.
“The track is a bit different to what I’m used to with around 50% of it being off-road but it suited me. I came out here hoping to qualify and possibly pick up a few points so to finish seventh in Race 2 was more than I could have hoped for.
In some respects it was a little easier than I thought but the big difference is the top 15 are separated by only a second a lap so any slip-up is costly. There’s definitely a little luck involved with a few incidents going in my favour.”

In S2, KTM rider Winstanley had a good first race finishing in sixth but crashed out of the second. British Championship regular Fred Fiorentino swapped his Husaberg for a Honda taking eighth in race one and 25th in race two following a crash mid-distance.

Warren said that the strong showing by the British riders is good for the national championship.
“It’s been a good result for all of us this weekend and shows the British Championship is producing some world class riders. Matt and Christian have proven themselves and hopefully I can add my name to the list before too long.”

Most of the Brit contingent will return to Europe for the next round of the World Championship to be held in the Czech Republic on the 22nd May. They are then back in action for round two of the Vivaldi British Supermoto Championship at Sunderland the following weekend (30th May).
