David Knight - runner-up in this year’s World Enduro Championship - blitzed all-comers as he grabbed victory in the inaugural Moto1 event at Donington Park on Sunday.

Knight was unstoppable as he converted Saturday’s overnight lead into overall victory, with third place in Sunday’s trial followed by runner-up finishes in the motocross and supermoto events, to clinch the title and £6000 first prize.

“I can’t believe I’ve managed to take the win,” said Knight. “I knew I’d have a good chance - only because I’ve a lot of experience on trials and I knew some of the others wouldn’t have any experience. I was pleased to score in all eight events, especially the road racing, and to win the first ever Moto1 makes me feel very proud. This event will grow and grow, and will be very big in years to come.”

Knight ran out winner by 25 points from fellow enduro rider Ady Smith, while Wayne Braybrook’s 13th place finish in Sunday’s road race handed him three points, and was enough for him to leapfrog Scotsman David Campbell to clinch third place.

Leighton Haigh won both supermoto races to take fifth place overall, and Tom Sykes was double victor in the road racing to end the Moto1 weekend in sixth place.
