39 days after breaking his right leg in a test session in Valencia - five breaks in all, John Reynolds will be on the start line come the Easter Monday race day at Brands Hatch, for the start of the British Superbike championship.
After completing fifteen laps today at Mallory Park, JR said, “I am pretty happy that I can ride at Brands Hatch this weekend, and I am going to defend my title from the off - so my rivals had better watch out. I have asked my team technicians to alter my brake settings so I can move around the bike more easily, but apart from that I am ready. I am not at full fitness, but I want to ride and even more importantly I want to race.”
Team manger Robert Wicks said, “It’s nothing short of miraculous that John has recovered sufficiently to race in just five weeks. Let me be the first to call him a hero - the determination and effort he has put into healing has been truly inspirational.”
John is certainly going to get a rapturous applause when he takes to the track, and not just from the viewing public but from other team members and media alike. He is made of strong stuff and I feel sure he will gain some points. John has always gone well at Brands Hatch and, although not fully fit - as he will have some degeneration of muscle in his right leg - he knows the circuit well.
With Ryuichi Kiyonari and Michael Rutter (both Honda) along with Sean Emmett (Yamaha) going well at test sessions last week, at Brands Hatch, I am sure John will be up among the leaders come race day.
Good luck JR, you are brimming over with ‘true grit’.
