British Supermoto big guns head North for round 2

The big names of Supermoto will be turning their attention to the second round of the Vivaldi British Supermoto Championship at the Karting North East, Warden Law Motorsport Centre in Sunderland this bank holiday Monday.

Returning from their respective World Supermoto Championship campaigns are Matt Winstanley, Christian Iddon, Sam Warren and Belgian ace Fred Fiorentino, who will be fighting for race wins along with British Championship regulars Mathew Pope and Ady Smith.

The Brit contingent of Winstanley, Iddon and Warren are all currently in the top fifteen on the world scene in their respective classes, with Iddon the best of the bunch, lying in fifth place in S1.

The first round at the Lydd International circuit in Kent proved to be an absolute thriller, with Winstanley and Fiorentino sharing the spoils. Iddon stole their thunder in the last race of the day, winning by the narrowest of margins as they crossed the line three abreast.

Up for grabs at each round of the championship is the Vivaldi, “Naturally Best” Rider of the Day award, which comes with a giant cheque for £1,000. Lydd winner Warren made the most of it, and is now contesting a number of world championship events as a direct result of the cash injection.

New for the Sunderland round is a Clubman’s Trophy for privateers and a Junior Challenge for the under 15s.
