Smaller teams snubs Ferrari & Mclaren proposal

Team bosses of smaller formula one teams have unanimously agreed not to back the re-introduction of mid season (in-season) testing from 2011.

Mclaren boss Martin Whitmarsh has suggested that he would be glad to see it back.

“I personally would like to see more testing but I am respectful of the fact that there are teams still hurting,” he said.

The proposal is equally supported by Ferrari and Mercedes GP teams, as Michael Schumacher stated that formula one is the only major sport in the world that prohibits practice.

However, the smaller teams said the in-season ban reduces the gap between the bigger and smaller teams, and hence they prefer the ban to stay.

Force India’s chief operating officer Otmar Szafnauer stated, "Everyone’s in the same boat, and testing is only an advantage for those who can afford it. So it (the ban) is good for the sport, even if the big teams have to cope with the setbacks in the development process.”
