Montreal born Lance Stroll, the 11-year old wonder kid, joined the ferrari driver academy programme.

He thus becomes the youngest driver to join the academy, after impressing the Italian team with his performances in the junior level karting scene in North America.

Ferrari had launched its driver academy last year after they struggled to find a suitable replacement for Felipe Massa when he was injured and side-lined in the second half of last season.

Stroll joins other young drivers like Jules Bianchi, Brandon Maisano, Daniel Zampieri, Mirko Bortolotti  and Raffaele Marciello at the academy.

He has two wins in the Canadian National Championship in the Rotax Mini Max category, two championship victories at the Flordia Winter tour and a sixth place finish in last year's karting world finals.

“We are pleased to welcome Lance to our group,” said Ferrari’s Luca Baldisserri, who heads the team’s driver academy.

“He is very young, but he has already shown in karting that he is exceptionally talented.

“We will follow him step by step in his forthcoming events in North America and he will soon also take part in our courses at Maranello," concluded Baldisserri.
