Spain's Marca newspaper reported that the F2012 would have an increased pace between 0.2 and 0.4 seconds" per lap after the changes in the area of the exhaust, the wings and the diffuser. 

Chief designer Nicholas Tombazis confirmed Ferrari tried the improvements during a straightline track test last week, after finding that parts tested only in the wind tunnel ahead of recent grands prix brought "unpleasant surprises".

"We ran control tests on these updates to really understand what the problem was. We got some very interesting answers which we believe will allow us to recover from those problems," he said.

However, their test driver Marc Gene was quoted by the EFE news agency to admitting that though Ferrari have brought "a number of improvements" to India, it does not add up to a "great revolution".

"But we do hope they help," he said.

"All the time there are less and less races, so we are doing everything to end the championship with even a single point more than second place," added Gene.

There were reports of issues with customs in India last year, and teams were skeptical of bringing new updates, as it might not reach in time for testing, and even if it makes it, the next race at Abu Dhabi is immediately the next week, and it would be risk if these updates cannot be shipped back in time.

With such a tricky situation it remains to be seen who takes the risk, and if the customs in India have improved, as last year was it's first F1 GP and things are not all perfect the first time.
