Flavio Briatore says Fernando has tougher competition than Michael Schumacher had during his successful period at Ferrari.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he said, "He (Alonso) is the best pilot out there, and even though the perfect pit-stop helped him at Monza (to edge out Jenson Button), he has been facing more competition than Michael Schumacher, when he had a successful run at Ferrari."
Asked on how much chance does he think Alonso has to clinch the title, he said, "He has 50% chance to win the world championship, especially if the Red Bull drivers continue the way they are racing right now."
He said, the Red Bull team doesn't realise that by not deciding on the lead driver, they might lose the championship.
"Monza was the hardest race for Red Bull. But they (Red Bull) have not yet realized that if they continue like this, with Webber and Vettel running against each other, they can lose the Championship."
"At Ferrari the situation is clear as Alonso is the lead driver. Red Bull's strategy is not brilliant, but of course, if one does not want to win the championship this can be a strategy, ironically," he added.
Speaking on Lewis Hamilton, he said, he is definitely one of the favourite to win the title, but the error was too bad from the Briton.
"He did a grave mistake, and let us not forget how Hamilton has thrown the 2007 championship."
