"I am happy to be given the opportunity to drive for Ferrari for a further two seasons," exclaimed the Brazilian to the media, on his contract extension for further two years with Ferrari.

The Brazilian was happy and proud to be associated further with the Italian team.

"Throughout my entire Formula One career I have always raced with an engine made in Maranello and it is a matter of pride for me to be able to continue working with a team I regard as a second family."

After being out half-way through last season with serious injuries, the Brazilian made the best comeback of his career this season with a second place in the Bahrain GP.

However, thereafter, his teammate and two times world champion, Fernando Alonso has overshadowed him on track.

There were question marks on his lacklustre performance and many rumours circulating of a possible end to his association with Ferrari. Quite a few drrivers were speculated to take his seat viz., Mark Webber, Robert Kubica and even MotoGP Champ Valentino Rossi.

However, laying all those to rest the Italian team have put faith in the Brazilian, and extended his contract till end of 2012.

"Felipe has been part of Ferrari for almost a decade and together with us, he has grown as a driver and a man, going through some very difficult times as well as giving us moments of great happiness," said team principal Stefano Domenicali.

"We wanted to show proof of stability for the future, believing in the worth of a driver pairing that is without equal in terms of talent, speed and its ability to work together for the good of the team."
