Jenson Button has signed a new contract with Mclaren. The deal, which is believed to be a four year contract ends speculation that the British driver was looking elsewhere for the future, particularly at the possibility of driving for Ferrari.

In recent months talk around the paddock had suggested that Jenson Button was possibly looking at alternatives for the future. His previous deal which he signed in November 2009 was due to expire at the end of next season. It would now seem that the his future is solely with Mclaren.

With the new contract between Jenson Button and Mclaren, Felipe Massa’s seat at Ferrari is looking slightly more secure. Although there have been assurances from both Luca Di Montezemolo and Stephano Dominicalli about his future, questions have always remained. Is he capable of helping to bring back the titles to Ferrari? Can he find the form we saw when he was racing against Schumacher and Raikkonen in the same machinery?

As this season draws to a close in 8 weeks time, it should not be to long before we find out who will be driving along side Fernando Alonso in 2012. Hopefully, who ever it may be, Ferrari will be in a strong position to fight for the WDC and the WCC.
