With Sebastian Vettel's victory at Monza yesterday, Fernando Alonso has thrown in the towel for championship fight.

"Six races to go so obviously the championship is impossible," he said. "Not mathematically but we are no longer in contention."

"We are fighting for second place in the championship."

After Mark Webber's early retirement in the race, Alonso who finished third behind Vettel and Jenson Button has now moved to second place in the driver's championship points.

"I think I'm second today after Mark Webber's retirement, so I will try to get second place as I did last year. We try to enjoy every race, we try to go for individual victories."

Meanwhile, Vettel's teammate Webber too seemed focussed on finishing second in the championship.

"I think we are all battling for second place now," Webber said.

Felipe Massa who was involved in the incident with Webber was upset as he finshed the race in 6th position.

"I was in front of him and he tried to pass me on the outside. There's nothing to say, he pushed me out and it was unfortunate because I lost all the possibilities for my race."

The championship now moves to Singapore in two weeks time, and there is no stopping the Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel.
