2006 will be a transitional year for the new BMW works team according to Mario Theissen, the man most likely to head up the new outfit. Theissen is a realist in understanding that the new team may languish behind former partner Williams until the expansion can be completed.
"To me it would be only natural if Williams was ahead of us," admitted Theissen. "I hope that we will be champions within five years, but I cannot predict it."
BMW plan to expand Sauber's Hinwil base and add new personnel to compete with the top teams. It will take time and effort to see the result of these additions. "We have a team (Sauber) which has never been ahead of Williams so far and that cannot be changed in a few weeks," Theissen cautioned.
