Sauber Regrets Heidfeld Decision

Peter Sauber has admitted that he was sorry to have to drop Nick Heidfeld and hopes the German can find a decent drive for 2004. The German, along with team-mate Heinz-Harald Frentzen, was dropped after three seasons with the Swiss outfit to be replaced by Giancarlo Fisichella and Felipe Massa.

In all honesty Heidfeld hasn't had the best of seasons and was largely overshadowed by Frentzen.

That said, Sauber clearly regrets having to drop the 26-year-old and hopes to see him line up on the grid in Melbourne next March.

"Nick is in a very difficult situation right now," he told Autosport, "and I do hope that he can find a seat, maybe with Jordan.

"If he can't find a drive, then it's important for him to search for a test drive in a team that doesn't have two strong drivers."

At present there are only five vacant race seats for 2004, one at Jaguar and two at Jordan and Minardi.
