Home Grand Prix for Sauber Draws Closer to Reality

It was announced earlier this year that Swiss officials were working to lift the country's 49 year ban on motor racing. Switzerland would be an ideal venue for a Formula One race. It is centrally located for the team's and the sports fanbase, as well as being exempt from the restrictions on tobacco advertising. Switzerland could provide an ideal compromise that would keep the sport near its European roots.

While legislation and funding are still being worked on, it was revealed that plans are already underway to design a new track near Moudon. Renowned track designer, Hermann Tilke has created a draft for a track winding through the hills of Lausanne. Tilke has recently worked on state-of-the art facilities in Malaysia, Bahrain, Shanghai, and a new track currently under construction in Turkey.

There is no doubt that team SAUBER PETRONAS would welcome a home race.
