Bump Day - & Weather Again A Factor

*** I'm having some issues with posting stories ATM, which is HOPEFULLY being looked into by the SN admins right now but, for the moment, I can't seem to post a lead paragraph to my front page stories! ***

Rain came again during Bump Day qualifying; once just after noon, and again at about 3:30 pm. The IMS crews worked heroically to get the track ready to go again in just over 90 minutes each time (it usually takes 2+ hours after a good, soaking rain to accomplish this), leaving about three & one half hours for the fouteen drivers who didn't make the cut on Saturday to battle over the remaining nine grid spots for this Sunday's Indianapolis 500: Ho-Pin Tung was not cleared to drive after crashing on Saturday & Scott Speed was released by Dragon Racing prior to making an attempt.

I wont go into the 'blow by blow', but suffice it to say that it was a very tense day for all involved, and the normally strong running Andretti Autosport squad got the worst of it. For whatever reason, they just couldn't seem to find the answers to their performance problems until the VERY last minute - which didn't leave them enough time to get all four of their 'regular' drivers ('one-off' driver John Andretti qualified on Saturday) into the show. Danica Patrick and Marco Andretti both eventually bumped their way onto the grid - convincingly, it must be noted - but the 6pm cut-off came before Mike Conway and Ryan Hunter-Reay could take one more stab at it.

Also on the outside looking in after 6pm were Sebastian Saavedra, James Jakes and Raphael Matos.

Here is the complete starting grid for Sunday's 95th running of the Indianapolis 500: http://indycar.com:8080/var/assets/startinglineup500.pdf

The drivers and teams will now take the next few days off. They will return on Friday - know as Carb day - to put in one last practice session, setting their cars up for what they hope the weather conditions will be on Race Day. Carb day will also see the running of the Freedom 100, the Firestone Indy Lights Series race at IMS.

*** I am also having issues posting pictures to any front page stories ATM, so my promised pics from Saturday will also have to wait until these technical issues get resolved. ***

Good coverage Andy. Hope you enjoy the 100 year anniversary.
My ticket was given to a family member from Germany who has traveled to Indy to take in the event thanks to your site.
Glad to see many of my favorites made the grid.
