I'm generally not to inclined to use my site as a place to post editorial commentary, but I just can't let this one pass: Disgraced former Renault F1 driver Nelson Piquet Jr. seems to think that America is the perfect place for him to bide his time and keep his skills sharp (if they ever were so in the first place!) while he awaits his chance to get back into F1.

Speaking to the German "Auto Motor und Sport", Nelson stated that; "If I can't find a place in F1, perhaps for one year I will go to America and try to do a good job there until the waves have calmed down a bit. I was there in August for a week and spoke with some teams."

Uh, okay: that was before you owned up to your role in "crash-gate", was it not? Do you really think that those teams (it is not currently certain whether he is talking about squads in the IndyCar or the American Le Mans Series) are going to touch you with a ten foot pole now?

Even if you COULD find one that was cash-starved enough to accept whatever sort of sponsorship $ you could bring to the table, I have one simple request to ask of you.

Don't do it. Stay away.

Please stay home. You are a disgrace to motorsports, and there is no place for you in the US racing scene. You will never be welcomed and accepted by your fellow drivers or the fans. You may see either series as sort of a temporary step backwards in your plans for a long and glorious F1 career, but over here we look at them as top-level series in their own rights, and we don't consider them to be a step backwards from anything. By your own admission, you are not looking for a long-term future here: you are just waiting for the storm to pass over in F1-land.

So again I say; Stay away. You are not welcome. Leave the American racing scene for those who actually want to fully commit themselves to racing here.
