The Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg has been postponed until Monday at 10am ET/3pm GMT due to steady thunderstorms which have parked themselves over the Tampa/St Pete area since early this afternoon. For those who would have watched the race on the ABC network, it will be aired on ESPN2.

The Firestone Indy Lights Series did manage to hold their season opener, running most of the event on rain tires as the weather first moved in. Pole-sitter James Hinchcliffe was taken out in the first turn of the opening lap when Phillip Major tried to pass several rows of cars in one swipe, but failed to brake soon enough to avoid spearing him. From that point on French rookie JK Vernay was in command of the race, often several seconds ahead of the constant - and exciting - 3 to 4 car battle for second spot. A series of yellow flags would bunch the field back up, but nobody seemed able to challenge Vernay on the restarts. Former CCWS driver Jan Heylen finished second, with Stephan Wilson (younger brother to IndyCar's Justin Wilson) comming home in 3rd.
