With no wins or poles to his credit through the first 4 races of the season, Ryan Briscoe was in danger of becoming the 'forgotten' driver on the Team Penske squad. During yesterday's qualifying for today's Roadrunner Turbo Indy 300, he made sure that people would remember that he's still around, ready to match his teammates' accomplishments.

After early practice was srubbed due to weather - rain and hail - , the afternoon session was all the time that everyone would have to get their cars dialed in before the 4pm qualifying. Oval qualifying consists of one car on track at a time, in an order determined beforehand by a 'blind' number draw, putting in four laps at speed, the average of which is their offical time & speed for the attempt.

Briscoe would post a speed average of 212.145 mph around the moderately high banked 1.5 mile Kansas Speedway; a mark that was 0.75 mph faster than second place Scott Dixon. Dario Franchitti would put in the third best result. 

Perhaps as a result of the lack of practice time, the 'normal' order of things once oval qualifying is done - where the Penske, Ganassi and Andretti cars lock everyone else out of the top three rows - was at least partially toppeled. Hideki Mutoh (Newman-Haas) would take the fourth spot, with Alex Tagliani (FAZZT) and Vitor Meria (Foyt) locking up Row Three.
