This weekend's IndyCar/Firestone Indy Lights events at historic Watkins Glen will feature the American Open Wheel debut of one of European racing's rising stars. Former A1GP champion - in the series' final season - Adam Carroll will make his first IndyCar start, driving for Andretti Autosport.

The Irishman, who is also a veteran of GP2 and British Formula 3, as well as a former Honda F1 GP test driver, will reportedly be making further appearences for AA thoughout the rest of the 2010 campaign, although the specific events have not yet been disclosed.

“To come to America with Andretti Autosport and do my first race... is pretty impressive," Carroll told reporters. "It’s a car I’ve been wanting to get into for a long time. It’s a great way to start my career in America.”

Meanwhile, Norway's Andres Krohn will be making his Firstone Indy Lights Series debut this weekend as well. The 22 year-old, who has progressed through Anderson Racing's Formula 2000 and Star Mazda programs over the past two seasons, will now move up to their top program (they have no IndyCar operation at present).

"In Norwegian eyes it's pretty big, because no Norwegian has previously raced on a higher level in open-wheel racing. I'm very proud to be the first driver to go from F2000 to Star Mazda to Firestone Indy Lights with Andersen Racing. They are the best team I have ever been with, and I consider them my American family.”

Practice and qualifying for both series will be on Friday and Saturday, and can be seen via live video streaming at www.indycar.com: So can the FIL race on Sunday, which will begin at 1:30pm ET/6:30pm GMT. The IndyCar race will be broadcast on the ABC network in America (internationaly; check your local network schedule) at 3:30pm ET/8:30pm GMT.
