The rains came again, as if on cue, as the IndyCar drivers were making their warm-up laps in preparation for the restart of the Sao Paulo Indy 300. As soon as the green flag flew, everyone dived for the pits (the pit lane enterance is just beyond the start/finsh line) for wet tires.

The race would prove to be a timed event, with almost 30 minutes of the two hour limit already used up in Sunday's abortive attempt. Given the shorter time span and with enough yellow flag laps, someone was bound to gamble on stretching their fuel (all of the teams had been allowed to top off their cars prior to the restart) for the full remaining distance.

That would be the gamble that KVRT took and, for a while, it looked like Takuma Sato would notch his first series win, with teammate EJ Viso also in a position to podium. In the end however, Viso was black flagged for blocking Marco Andretti and there just were not enough yellow flag laps to support Sato's gamble, so both of their efforts came to naught.

"It was a shame we did not make it, but I want to thank the entire team for all their hard work this weekend,” Sato said afterwards.

By playing it 'safe' and making a fuel stop on lap 36 of what would prove to be a 55 lap race, Will Power would carry the day, notching his second win of the year and second consective win at Sao Paulo. The 'gambler' who did best today was Graham Rahal, who skidded, spun and slid around with a dry weather set-up - and full slick tires in the closing laps - but still managed to bring the car home in second.

Power's fellow countryman and teammate, Ryan Briscoe, would finish in third.
